"The Explanation"
What Action Did We Take?
We started off by helping the Surrey Food Bank. We did this by going around in our neighborhoods and going door to door to collect food. We did this 3 times. Our ending results were good, each time we went around, people were kind and gereous to help our cause, and when we returned home, we returned with full wagons each time. All together we collected more than 1,000 non-perishable food items. Next we hosted a Toy Drive. This was hosted at the Paradise Banquet Hall, tickets were sold for $20.00 to enter and that paid for your dinner and entertainment. Each guest was expected to bring one brand new toy to donate and one non-perishable food item. This event was like a 2 in 1 combination, we helped out 2 causes in one. Our end result for this was more than 200 people showed up and donated. We had a craft table for kids, performances and door prizes that came along with the $20.00 ticket you purchased.
What Motivated Us?
At first it was just another socials project, but later on we just became motivated, especially because it was around christmas time, we were both in the giving mood. We just felt that it was important to give to others, and to not keep it all for yourself. Some people feel quite left out as it nears christmas time, so we wantd to help out those who could not afford it. Some families may not be able to be together during the christmas season, so we felt like it would be the perfect season to help out those families who needed it.There was no real "motivation" we just felt the need to help, as we had much much more than other did.
"The Impact"
Yes, we do feel like we were succesful and that we made an impact doing this project. During the time period of this project, we collected many canned donations, and raised lots of toys. We felt like we hepled many families, both, have toys and food during christmas. We made it into the paper thanks to my aunt, so we are pretty sure that the whole of cloverdale knew about what we were trying to accomplish. The paper helped get us more support as when we went around door to door to collect more food, we were given a lot of support and many more cans were collected. Toward the end of this project, we had more than 7 recycling bins full of food, and one whole truck, back and front full of toys. We think that we were pretty succesful.
Thy Barriers & Obstacles
The main barriers and obstacles that we had were finding time to get together. With our busy schedules it was hard to find time to get together. Another barrier and obstacle was getting the support, after we let the public know, that is when we started receiving the support, but before this, people were not as giving, as they didn't know what we were doing, and whom we were doing this for. Another barrier was transportation, we had troubles, fitting in with our parents schedules to help us deliver and collect the food. We personally think this was the big issue, other were difficult too, but without transportation and our parents, our project would not have gone as well.
How well did you meet the learning goals?
We think that we met the learning goals pretty well. We both tried our very best to make a change. We double checked the criteria sheet and expectations to make sure that we covered it all. We hope that maybe people in our neighborhoods will be influenced by us and want to make a difference also. That would be the best part, being the reason someone decided to help out. We wanted to make sure that we did everything we could for our causes, we didnt want any children or families to feel left out. Just because we may have, doesn't give us a reason to take it for granted.
